using hardware crypto accelerators with Networker
hello,
is it possible to boost Networker's native 256 AES crypto with some hardware based crypto accelerator cards?
i have customer who noticed that in some Networker storage nodes (Sparc, Solaris) crypto takes too much power from server. they don't currently want to replace server hardware. but they have Sun Crypto Accelerator 500 card available they could use. can Networker benefit from such device when doing AES 256 crypto during backup? if yes, then is there anything additional needed?
regards,
kipz

Sun's documentation on Crypto Accelerator 500 says that you can offloads SSL functions from a server's CPU. Among the supported algorythms are RSA-1024, DSA and 3DES. Not AES. This won't give you benefits with Networker in any way. BTW: As from what I've read on Networker it uses openssl. You would need to use Sun's customized openssl version on your Networker server (and replace a part of Networker). I can't imagine this is supported in any way,
regards.
