VADP proxy and vCenter server - same host?

Question

Hi,

Can the VADP proxy host and the vCenter server be the same exact host? Both require only the NetWorker client, I believe. My vCenter server

is a qualified Windows 2008 R2 host. And, if they cannot be, can anyone here explain why not?

Hi Art, Yes, these can be the same host.  You can find a full list of what you need in the NetWorker VMWare Integration Guide, page 16 - software and hardware requirements. -Bobby

Thanks, Bobby. I had read this page already, and it lists the requirements thusly:

The software and hardware requirements for VADP include:

One or more VADP proxy systems running any of the following operating

systems (English versions only):

…

And

One or more vCenter/Virtual Center servers running any of the following

versions:

I took this to mean that two hosts were required, which is why I asked, but I do believe you’re right in that they can be the same host. Have not yet decided if I’ll go that route though as it may slow down interactive vCenter sessions.

The current EMC NetWorker and VMware Release 8.0 SP1 Integration Guide mentions that the proxy cannot be run on the NetWorker Server.

Note: The VADP proxy host cannot be the NetWorker server. Also, if multiple client

instances of the same VADP proxy host exist in the NetWorker server, ensure that all the

instances have the same application information attributes related to VADP.

Any thoughts about that ??? Cause I know a number of customers with this config... so when they upgrade to 8.0SP1, I suppose they will run into problems.
