Do you have details what exactly procedure they did? Was this DR to the same box?

My first question would be are you using identical hardware?

Is this a test situation or a recovery following a failure? If so what was the failure?

They are restoring the information on the same server as they made the backup.
They are following the DR procedure according Netorker DR.
It is a test as they want to make sure a full restore will work
Basically they do:
- Install Windows 2008 server with 7.4.3 Networker client version.
- Recover the entire system without joining the client in the domain.
- After that the end customer restart the client.
- On startup the client stay always on a black screen after the Windows loading window.
- It stays in this state during half an hour. So the end customer decided to rebbot and then an error message appears before loading Windows. (the one described on the first post)

No changes of hardware or software so far

Many thanks

Well, googling in this shows forest of links and people facing same problem. I assume using installation DVD with repair option would not help?

Nope, they tried that many times... it didnt help
Funny thing tough is that using NTbackup they are able to restore the system

Any thoughts?

NT backup doesn't use exactly the same approach as EMC does when using MS VSS framework. Obviously this difference here might have crucial role unless something else less obvious is the problem here.

I'm curious how they used NTBackup on a 2008 box. NTBackup is no longer supported on 2008 and comes with new backup software.

Only thing I have heard you are able to do with NTBackup on 2008 is restore files non-system related. (i.e. data type files.) NTBackup won't make backups though of a 2008 system. (My understanding.)

And that under 2008 you now use wbadmin I believe for VSS System State backups.

Is there an update to this issue. I'm having the same problem performing a restore following the DR procedures. I'm performing a test exactly as described in the original post.

They probably referring to Windows Server Backup too (I call it NT backup as well as I'm so used to it). As for restore, it works only with BKF files.

I had a successful backup/restore DR test with Windows 2008 using client version 7.4.4 with the libasm.dll patch from EMC.
