Windows ASR networking problems

Hi there,

we are having problems recovering a windows server 2003 machine (VM) with automated system recovery (ASR), NetWorker Server V7.5, client V7.2.1.

ASR is starting installation and reaches the networker asr client, but doesn´t start recovering data via networker. I put "cmd.exe /k ipconfig /all" in the [commands] section of asr.sif to check network settings. Network settings are different from the net.cfg file, hostname is "machinename" and not the original clientname, IP is on DHCP and not fixed. I guess, that is the problem why networker doesn´t start.

Any ideas why net.cfg is not used? I put vmware network driver on the ASR disk and installed them via the [installfiles] section.

Thanx for your help
Heiko

If I remember correctly ASR will work fine if you are using native drivers or drivers found on Windows CD/DVD used for install. If not, then is real show that you have. If I remember correctly you must edit both sif and cfg files in such case and provide .sys and .inf files required to support network. I never did this with virtual machine and things might be different there - you should really use VCB with that one.

We did integrate the VMWare NIC driver on the ASR-disk. We also renamed the network connection from "Produktion" to "Local Area Connection" (found an issue about that). We would like to use VCB, the problem is, that we have to do a restore of a machine and we have only standard backup for it ;-) ...

I will check what happens without the vmware NIC drivers.

Do image backup with VCB.
