5324 problem - SWINIT-F-INITPORTLIB: SW2C_dist_new_master_id:: Port lib init failed

When I power on my switch, I get the following error message:

SWINIT-F-INITPORTLIB: SW2C_dist_new_master_id:: Port lib init failed

Is there anything that I can do to fix the switch or perform some sort of reset function?

Thank you,

Frank

This message is very strange.  Does it happens pretty much when the switch first boots - maybe you can post all the stuff that goes before this message when it boots?  This message makes me think that either the FW image is bad or perhaps the wrong FW image is loaded onto this switch.  Maybe you will be able to fix this by using xmodem method to reload the FW image for this 5324 switch.

Here is the section the doc on how to use xmodem:

Is there anything configure on these switches?  Anything connected to them?  I'll send a question to some of my colleague to see if anyone recognize this error message.  I'll let you know.

Nothing is connected. Switch is sitting on my desk and just has the serial console connection to the PC. I've started a firmware reload using xmodem - looks like it will take about 1 hour.

To wipe out the CONFIG file, I should just type "config" after selecting option #2 from the Startup menu.

How do I erase the entire flash to start fresh?

March 3rd, 2006 20:00

One of my colleague suggests that perhaps the problem is a corrupted flash or a corrupted config.  From the boot menu it is possible to wipe out the configuration and even wipe out the flash to start over.  If all else fail you could try that.  None of the people I talked to recognize this message so we are not sure what's causing it.

From the boot menu option 2 you can delete the startup-config file which will wipe out the config.  If this fails then the other options is to wipeout flash completely.  Once you wipe flash and reboots the system will force you to download the image again via xmodem to rebuild the image.

To wipe out the flash you need to access the advance menu by first getting to the boot menu and then type "ctrl-shift-6".  Choose the erase flash option and erase all sector (1-X - the menu will tell you what X is).

I upgraded the code, but the same problem persists. I even tried power on/off.

I have tried performing a complete erase of the flash as per your instructions and the same problem is persisting.

There must be someone at Dell that knows and can explain what this error means. As you can see from the previous screen capture, all of the initial tests PASS for the switch.

Please assist.

I'm forwarding question to development team who worked on this switch.  We'll let you know.

I have spoken to development team on this issue, they have some follow up questions:

  • Do both of the switches you have exhibit this same problem everytime?  Meaning that they both always reboot and fail everytime with this message?
  • Are these switches just sitting by themselves not connected to anything and get this error message on reboot everytime?
  • This continues to happen after you tried clearing DB and flash correct?
  • When you boot up, from the boot menu you can run system diagnostic on the box.  Can you execute the diagnostic and send us the capture of the diagnostic run?

Thanks,

Cuong.

Has this issue ever been resolved? I am experiencing the exact same issue with one of my 5324's

I reflashed it as well with no luck...

Here's a dump of the diagnostics report:

No the problem was never resolved. We ended up throwing the switch away. The time to fix the issue was starting to cost more than the switch. We still have two of these switches in use. I bought the Dell equipment as a trial from our usual Cisco equipment. The Cisco gear is more reliable with much better software. Dell firmware has far too many bugs with the current firmware and poor documentation.

Still no solution to this issue?  I have a 5324 with the same exact problem.

I have the same problem.
I tried to alter already all firmwares.
Deleted a configuration and erased all areas of flash.
Same result ...
I am already tired.

What to do further?  :emotion-6:
