6224 Stack won't work!
Hi all.
I have 2 6224: one already working and the second one tath i want to stack with the first.
I followed those steps:
-configure priority 12 on the first switch (the one i want to be master)
-power off both switches and add stack module
-connect stacking cable from 1/xg1 of the first switch to the 1/xg2 of the second one
-power on both switch
but nothing happened!!!!!! The switch doesen't recognize the topology change. I tried to connect the stacking cable while the switch was powered, to change ports, to change cable but there is no way....
What do you suggest to do??
Thanks in advance!
Stefano

3.2.x.x firmare has the ability to set a stacking module port to be an ethernet port and CX4 module port to be a stacking port.
It looks like your first switch has at least one of its stacking module ports (xg2) set to be an Ethernet port. This may happen because at one time you had a non-stacking module in this slot or you plugged in a stacking module while the switch was powered on. Or it is a bug. Either way, here is something to try:
Use the following commands to set the stacking module ports to stacking ports.
stack-port 1/xg1 stack
stack-port 1/xg2 stack
You may have to save the configuration and reboot.
Just curious, did these switches come with 3.2.0.7 firmware on them or did you load it yourself?

check out the white paper archive:
There you'll find "Stacking Dell PowerConnect 6200 Switches"
And the original poster wrote:
-configure priority 12 on the first switch (the one i want to be master)
I think it's the other way round: priority has to be low for the master

Hi
Sorry to hijack this thread but I have a similar Problem and am desperated
I have a 6224 firmware 2.0xxx
I bought a module to us 10Gbit sfp+ modules (on the backside of the switch).
Unfortunately I cant get the port 1/xg1 up. Its always sowing link down. If I use the sfp+ module on the frontside
it works with 1Gbit.
Help PLEASE :-(

Hi. I still use the Firmware 2.0.0 ...
Could that be because of that?

Hi
I have upgrade to the lastest firmware. Still cant get the fibre port 1/xg1 to work.
It shows max 1000mbps and is shown as disabled. The sfp+ modules do work.
console(config-if-1/xg1)#speed ?
10 Force 10Mbps Operation
100 Force 100Mbps Operation
1000 Force 1000Mbps Operation
I can switch to no negotation
#no negotiation
Auto-negotiation can only be disabled when the interface supports speeds lower than 1G.
Show interface configuration:
console>show interfaces configuration

uh and 2.0.0 is REALLY old ... we are coming from 1.x and I have to say that firmware -most- of the time it got better ...
They just withdrew one real buggy one.
Though the current 3.2.3.3 still has some bugs I already submitted to Dell support.
Currently EU daylight saving time is broken and some other minor things.

please show us
show stack-port
In my stack it looks like this:
#show stack-port
Configured Running
Stack Stack Link Link
Unit Interface Mode Mode Status Speed (Gb/s)
---- ---------------- ---------- ---------- ------------ ------------
1 xg1 Stack Stack Link Up 12
1 xg2 Stack Stack Link Up 12
1 xg3 Ethernet Ethernet Link Up 10
1 xg4 Ethernet Ethernet Link Up 10
2 xg1 Stack Stack Link Up 12
2 xg2 Stack Stack Link Up 12
xg1/xg2 are Stacking modules (12GB) and xg3/xg4 are 10G Ethernetmodules
You might have to tell it that it's an ethernet module.

Firmware is 3.2.3.3 right now. I did an upgrade
The sfp+ 10Gbit module is inserted on the backside of the switch...had to buy a module to be able to use it.
Any help is appreciated!
