beginner question, sharing same vlan between 2 switch ...
Hi, I have a Dell powerconnect 6248 and a cisco sge2010 switch. I created 4 vlan on each and I will use the 6248 to do the layer 3 routing between them. I have defined the same vlan ID on each of them but I need to be able to connect a computer on vlan 3 on switch 1 and on vlan 3 of switch 2 and have them talk to each other in the same IP segment.
vlan 1 default
vlan 10 192.168.10.0 /24
vlan 20 192.168.20.0 /24
vlan 30 192.168.30.0 /24
vlan 40 192.168.40.0 /24
I have defined ip on each vlan on the dell switch and they can talk to each other on different vlan fine.
now the question is how do I connect the switch B (cisco) to have these same vlan so that I can have a computer on switch A(dell) in vlan 20 with ip 192.168.20.100 to talk to computer on switch B in vlan 20 with ip of 192.168.20.101.
my network is internet router-> switch B -> Cat 6 cable to switch A
Do I just define a trunk port on each switch with all vlan on them and it's as simple as that ? How will the 6248 know that computer x is local and computer y is on the remote switch ?
Any input are really appreciated as this vlan thing is new to me.
Thanks !
