Cannot ping general ports on 2 PowerConnect Switches

Good Day,

I have the following configuration on two DELL PC 5324 Switches:-

#spanning-tree mode rstp
#vlan database
#vlan 11,100,250

#interface range ethernet g(1-2)
#switchport mode general
#swictport general allowed vlan add 11,100,250

#interface range ethernet g(5-12)
#switchport mode access
#swicthport access vlan 11

#interface range ethernet g(17-18)
#switchport mode access
#switchport access vlan 100

#interface range ethernet g(19-20)
#switchport mode access
#switchport access vlan 250

#interface port-channel 1
#switchport mode trunk
#swicthport trunk allowed vlan add 11,100,250
#gvrp enable

#interface range ethernet g(21-22)
#channel-group 1 mode auto

I can ping devices on the same VLAN configured on two switches as access ports. But I cannot do the same on general ports (g1 & g2 here). That means a device on switch 1 on port 5 cannot access another device on swicth 2 port 1. But on switch 2 port 5-12 its possible.. Can you please tell me any further config is required for general ports.. ONLY GENERAL PORTS PROBLEMATIC

Please advice ASAP

Kind regards

Rumhy

Good Day Sir,

There are no pvids set on port g1 & g2. These two ports should forward traffic from VLAN 11,100 & 250. For example, If I set pvid 250 on port g1, The port g1 forwards traffic to that network. I tried this setting and it works. But not to the other two.. I wanted to reach all the three networks on the two general ports g1 & g2.

(Currently, ports g1 & g2 are configured as general ports and members of vlan 11,100 & 250 without  pvid)

Please advice,

Rumhy Sam

What devices connect to these ports? to be able to access all 3 vlans the end device will need to be vlan aware and tag all its traffic accordingly

Good day Sir,

The devices connected to the ports are two Dell power edge servers with Win 2003 Server OS and Suse Linux 10 Server OS. Do I have to do something on the server so that, it is aware of all the three vlans and the tagging?

Best Regards

I am not sure what type of NIC is in that server but any server class NIC with either of those operating systems should support vlan tagging and sub interfaces. What you will end up with is 3 "network interfaces" on each machine with a ip from each vlan. If you google vlan tagging for each of those OS's i am sure you will find a wealth of information on it.

Good luck
