Cannot ping to VLAN interfaces on N1500 series switch

Hello

I've got a stack of DELL switches (N1500 Series) with a number of VLAN's and I am hoping to get some advice on a strange problem I am having. There is this VLAN 20 on port 6,7,8,9 and 10.

- a win10 PC is connected on port 6 (VLAN 20)

- a printer is connected on port 7 (VLAN 20)

The PC although it has the correct DHCP information it can not ping the printer. If I connect the same PC on a different switch (one that is not on the same stack) but the same VLAN 20, the PC can ping the printer. Does anyone know why this might be happening? Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Many thanks

Hello vt1012

Thank you for trying to help. The issue does not follow the PC. On port 8 is another PC that also has the exact same problem. On ports 9 and 10 are 2 Xerox printers.

Port 6 is PC1.

Port 7 is free. If I plug in port 7 a PC or a printer the problem does not get away.

Port 8 is a xerox printer

Port 9 is another xerox printer

Port 10 is PC2.

If I swap ports, for example, plug PC1 to port 10 and PC2 to port 6 the issue remains. I can confirm that the PCs can not ping each other as well as the printers. If I plug PC1 or PC2 to port 7 makes no difference. If I plug in one of the printers in port 7 also makes no difference. All these ports are on the same VLAN.

However on another stack in a different room same set of switches (N1500 Series), same VLAN 20, the same PC can ping the printers. It looks like the problem it is within that unit2 or stack.

It's a mystery and I haven't got a clue. There is port security on these ports but that shouldn't prevent the devices to ping each other, right?

I just had a quick look at the log files on the switch and I noticed these lines:

ERR DAI dropped ARP frame rcvd on i/f Gi2/0/06 in vlan 20, due to - IP VALID FAILURE

ERR DAI dropped ARP frame rcvd on i/f Gi2/0/08 in vlan 20, due to - DST MAC FAILURE

Hi goudeuk, What other devices are connected to vlan 20 in ports 8, 9, and 10? Make sure all of those can ping each other correctly, and see if any other devices can ping the printer. If not, you may want to try moving (or swapping) the printer to one of those ports to troubleshoot and possibly eliminate a port problem. If that doesn't work, try doing the same moving the PC to another vlan 20 port. Try to get an idea if it is just that particular port that is not working with the PC, or does the issue follow the PC. Hope this helps.

Hello

Yes I disabled port security but made no difference and I re-enabled it. Sure what config would you like to have a look at? Please note I am not a network expert.

Thank you
