Have you pre-generated the crypto keys for SSH - "crypto key generate" ?

Ok,  I have the same exact problem as above, But I still can not enable the ip ssh server???

sw1(config)#crypto key generate rsa

RSA key generation started, this may take a few minutes........
RSA key generation complete.

sw1(config)#

sw1(config)#ip ssh server

SSH could not be enabled.

here is an inventory of my firmware version:

Is using a dsa key an option for you?  If so, this seems to work fine on my 6224.  It allows me to generate both the rsa and dsa keys then allows the ip ssh server command to be successful.

I just confirmed this hunch... You have to use DSA keys... Generating RSA keys alone (PC6248 3.2.1.3) will not allow you to turn on ip ssh server. Hey Dell, maybe the error message should say "please generate DSA keys with this command: ...."

Ok, so I am slow. For those who might find this thread you need to generate BOTH the rsa and the dsa key before ip ssh server will work.
