Fiber connect using 5324/3424
Ok, what am I missing in the instructions to get the fiber-ports to start working?
I shutdown the switches and installed the sx transceiver modules into the fiber ports.
I connected the fiber patch cables and then I powered the switches back up but neither switch even attempts to transmit down the fiber that I can see.
When I ask for the port information in the terminal on the 5324 it shows that the G21 port is down and that it is a copper connection.
If I run through the diagnostics when I first startup the switch it shows that the transceiver is installed but after everything boots up it is as if the tranceiver does not even exist.
I see in several posts that the ports have to be enabled for fiber but I'll be darned if I can find where to enable them and unfortunately I don't have the time to dig for it this week.

The SFP port share with the copper ports on both the 53xx and 34xx (they are combo ports). For example on the 5324, ports 21-24 are either SFP or copper. If you plug in the SFP cable you must not plug anything into the copper port. Also note that we support only DELL branded SFP. If you have some other 3rd party SFP you will not be able to use it on our switches.

There is nothing plugged into the copper ports 21-24. Only the transceiver is plugged into G21.

This is a Dell SFP.

How did you configure the ports? Are they set to auto-negotiation?

When installing the fiber did you remember to cross over the fiber cables? One of the strands has writing on it, one does not. If the one with writing on it is in the left side of the SFP on switch 1, it should be in the right side of the SFP on switch 2. Also the fiber are fragile, you might want to verify that your cable is good.
