No, I did not get the username and password from the previous owners.
(I bought it from a company that was going out of business)

I have already looked at this guide, and the problem is I never get a prompt saying "Select an option"
all I get during boot is what is in the original post

I have not been able to find another way to reset the password.

Do you know why I get a different boot up sequence than other users?
different version maybe?
3rd party software?

Update:
I am connecting via a USB cable (should I connect with a rs-232 cable instead?)
also the stack id is 3

USB should be fine, but it could be taking too long to start displaying so you might miss the boot prompt.

I bought a rs232 to usb adapter and managed to remove the password from the switch but I still cant reset it
Does it give an error?

% Error: Invalid input at "^" marker.

You could also delete the startup config and reboot.
