Force10 S60 Factory Reset Issue

Hi All,

As the title says, I have a Force10 S60 that I need to restore to factory settings, but none to the documentation I've found so far has worked.  When I cycle the power, instead of getting the normal 'select an option' menu, it posts 'U-boot 1.3.4' and runs the boot sequence instead.  At one point in the process it gives me the option to stop the auto-boot sequence, but no choices if I do.  Calling the help file at that point doesn't offer much either...

I know it can't be this hard, so I must be missing something simple.  Anyone else been here?  I don't need to preserve any settings, I just want to configure the switch from scratch.

Thanks in advance,

-Michael

Thanks Daniel,

As you noted, without the boot menu I cannot try your first suggestion, and the second comes back with this:

Barring a solution with the command line, is there any way to boot from a flash drive and do a clean install of the firmware?

Ok, mine looks a bit different for some reason, so I've posted the output here along with some notations.  Also, bold text indicates access points, blue is notes, and red is commands (but that's probably obvious.)

And again, I really appreciated the help.

I got this back:

Hit any key to stop autoboot:  0

=> setenv stconfigignore true

=> saveenv

Saving Environment to SD CARD...

done

=> reset

After reboot it looks the same as before though, no # and trying 'restore factory-defaults' returns same error message.  Oddly, 'setenv stconfigignore true' and 'saveenv' didn't cause error messages, and seem to have been accepted, just with no noticeable impact (that I can see, anyway.)

I re-ran the steps this morning and got this (I printed the help file, also):

Hit any key to stop autoboot:  0
=> setenv stconfigignore true
=> saveenv
Saving Environment to SD CARD...
done
=> reset

Good call, if I let it finish the boot procedure I now get a responsive FTOS# prompt, and can call FTOS(config)#  This seems like a good sign.  Now I just need to set the IP, ect. so I can access the web GUI.

"FTOS(config)#interface managementethernet" returns with Error: incomplete command.  Any idea what I'm missing?  The FTOS documentation I'm using doesn't specify anything else, and indicates I should get a (config-if-ma)# prompt that will let me assign an IP and mask.

Thanks again for getting me through the first part :)

Thanks for everything, I think I'm to the point where I just need to get familiar with the differences between this S60 and the 5548's I normally use.

I'll mark this thread as answered, but is there any place I can leave you a good review?  It looks like you work for Dell, and I'd like to show my appreciation.
