How do I test my switch?
Hi all, I'm a little new to networking switches but was given a PowerConnect 5448 and I'm having trouble accessing the Web GUI. Here's what I did so far:
I realize the switch doesn't have DHCP so I can't directly plug my laptop into it. So, I plugged the switch into a spare router which my laptop was plugged into. I ran an iplookup hoping to find the PowerConnect IP address to log into, but it wasn't showing up at all. This is where I wasn't sure what to do next...
Should I find a serial cable and access it that way or do some kind of hard reset? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks :)

Hi,
Is this a new install of the switch or was it already configured? There is not a default IP configured, so if there is not an existing configuration on there you will need to connect through the console port and either run the setup wizard or manually set an IP for management. Hi Josh thanks for the reply! It's a new install and I'm not sure what the last settings were. I'm going to try a serial to USB cable to access the console via Putty.

Well, I was finally able to access the Web GUI, but only after enabling DHCP on the 5548. Am I able to access the Web GUI solely through serial console and being directly plugged into the switch via ethernet? I assume I should manually set my laptop IP/Gateway to do this?
