How to update?

This seems a silly question, but I cannot update the firmware on my 2716 PowerConnect. While I am not sure what TFPT is, I am entering the IP address for my FTP server and it says it cannot be reached (yes I entered the full files names and selected the appropriate pull down option - i.e. software or boot image).

I have set the FTP site to no security and everyone allowed. I tested this on another PC on a separate network so this is fine.

What am I doing wrong?

TFTP (trivial file transfer protocol) is a different protocol then FTP.  The 2716 switch uses only TFTP protocol to do upgrade instead of FTP.  If you will go to Google and search on TFTP you will find several different TFTP servers (some are free) that you can use.  I have had great success with Solarwinds TFTP server (solarwinds TFTP server - http://www.solarwinds.net/Tools/Free_tools/TFTP_Server/).

Worked like a charm, thank you.

And for those with a Firewall, TFTP uses UDP Port 69.

Sorry but I've had a terrible experience with Solarwinds. It doesn't transfer files larger than 20 MB (breaks the connection) and has terrible security settings (i.e. security settings doesn't apply). I found out that it also has some vulnerabilities.

I don't think you guys should recommend SolarWinds TFTP.
