Linking with Dell Powerconnect 2016????

I own three computers and want to link them with my recently purchased Dell Powerconnect 2016. I have a Dell Dimension 8250, a Dell Latitude, and a Gateway. The Gateway desktop is connected to the internet by LAN. I want all the computers to be connected to LAN by linking them. I connected all the lines and it shows that the connections have been established. Although it says that they are connected it will not connect to the internet. It shows the local area network connection is enabled. What do i do i am so confused.....PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The PowerConnect 2016 is a Layer-2 switch.  What it sounds like you need is a router or a proxy server connected to the 2016 to allow connection of multiple systems to the internet.

The end systems should be able to communicate to one another on the LAN, as long as they all share a IP address in the same subnet.

well... at one time i had two of them working and being both able to connect to the internet. The one that had the internet and also the other desktop byt not the lap top. Could it be the operating system because it worked for a short period of time.

So in order to link more than one computer to the Powerconnect 2016 you have to puchase a router or a proxy server for all the computers to receive internet connection.?  Do I purchase this from Dell only?

My other question refers to my S2500 Laser Printer.  I want to connect it to all 3 computers that I currently have using the PowerConnect 2016. How do I go about doing this. Thank you.  Paula
