Management VLAN
Hello,
We have a power connect 6224 and 4 3448's
We are currently setting up routed VLANs in our environment and are planning on moving our network off the management VLAN where it currently is, or creating a new management VLAN.
My question is after we move the management VLAN to a new VLAN how will we access the switches? Will we have to leave a machine on that VLAN to be able to manage the switch?
Is there something I am missing that will allow me to manage the switches from other VLANS other than the Management VLAN...
Thanks for any help...

I just went thru that same senario. We had 14 5324 layer-2 switches, all on one ip segment (flat network). I needed to move the clients off that segment, and make a segment for servers, printers, switches.
This took a lot of planning, but as soon as I got it figured out, it fell into place.
Basically, I made the 6224 loopback interface a crazy ip address that I would never use. 192.168.254.99
Then decided to setup 4 vlans, making one vlan the management vlan where the servers, printers, and switches would reside. I also, made sure that the IT department was on that segment. The trick is the 6224 will do the routing if you enable globally. One big gotcha was that I forgot to make the default gateway for the vlans relative to the segment, and set that up in the DHCP server.
We can RDP to any server, or client PC just fine, All our management s/w works fine, the 6224 does the routing.
Yes, depending on your vlan you get an ip for that segment, which is handed out from our 80/20 DHCP server. The clients can see ALL the servers, and use the printers as needed with no problems.
If you need some more help, please feel free to followup here. Posting your current layout, might get more help. Let us know.
