Monitoring PowerConnect 3348 through Fluke Network Inspector

I have four 3348, one 3248 and one HP ProCurve switches on our network. By its default settings, I can monitor devices that connected to each port of 3248 or ProCurve switch by using Fluke Network Inspector. But not for 3348s. 3348 switch will show UP/DOWN state on each port. There are no MAC address or device information linked to each port.

I have tried other monitoring software. The same thing. I have tried to change switch settings and upgrade MIB object for the monitoring software. Still no luck. Does somebody else have the same problem?

Thanks,

Dennis Zhou

Any luck with this? I have LAN MapShot, and it does not detect anything at all on my 3348's. It reads the SNMP Location, Name, and Contact information, and identifies it as a switch, but does not show any other information. Does something have to be done to utilize MIB-II ?

Not much luck with it. I have tried to compile a long list of MIB objects that I found on this website to help the software, but it did not help a bit. So far, I have nothing but problems with this swich. Like freeze-ups(if you have IPX on your network and Span-tree enabled), slowness(if you stack them), and I have one out of four even failed within the first half year.

I found part of the problem. Although the specs say that the 3348 supports the BRIDGE-MIB, it in fact does not support all of the parts. Specifcally, it does not support .1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3.1.1.0, BRIDGE-MIB:dot1dTpFdbEntry. This is the portion that lists each mac address of what is directly attached to each port. The 5324 seems to have limited support for BRIDGE-MIB, but the 3348 is missing this crucial OID.

Dell support moderator -> Is there a workaround for this, or a future firmware upgrade that will fully support the BRIDGE-MIB ?

Yes, the workaround is to buy Cisco.

I'm probably kicking a dead horse but has anyone been able to get this resolved?

I have ten Dell PowerConnect 3524 switches which successfully return interface port device information if I perform a SNMP query for OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3.1.1 but get nothing (NULL) when I perform a SNMP query on my five Dell PowerConnect 6248 switches running the most recent firmware (3.3.3.3).

I’m relatively new to MIB’s but is there a way to ‘compile’ a MIB for the PowerConnect 62xx switches so they return this information?

Is there a firmware other than v3.3.3.3 that supports OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3.1.1?
