Need advice for Link Aggregation on PowerConnect™ 2708

Hi everyone,

This is my network case:-

I just got 2 lines from my NOC (each with 10mbps of bandwidth allocation).
Each line will come with 8 public IPs.
I have a few servers (around 5 of them). Each server will hold 1-2IPs each.
I need to share both line 2x 10mbps with the servers.

I believe I can do this with link aggregation on PowerConnect™ 2708. I will like to confirm with the expert here if my above case can be fulfilled with PowerConnect™ 2708?

If not, please advice on what to get?

Thanks,
Yizhe

Link aggregation group (LAG) is used when you want to combine multiple physical interfaces to create a single logical interface with the combine bandwidth of all the member of the group.  The LAG will be able to do load-sharing across those member links and also provides protection if a member link dies by moving the traffic on that fail link to another member of the LAG.

So that's the purpose of the LAG.  I'm not sure then how it applies to what you are doing.  You have some broadband connections from your provider.  Each of these broadband connection sounds like they are completely independent with different external IP addresses assigned to them.  LAG-ing these independent broadband connection doesn't make sense to me.  But perhaps I don't understand the application.

Also remember that the 27xx is a layer 2 switch meaning that it operates at the MAC address level and doesn't know anything about IP addresses so it would not really know nor can do anything about the IP addresses that are carried on the link anyway.

Are there fixed IP addresses assigned to you?  Are they fixed to some MAC addresses within your network?  How are the IP addresses assigned to you get associated with your servers?  I think there are some information missing here that makes it hard to answer your question.

BTW, if you have a service provider who is providing you these connections they should be able to also help you setup your network and they have all the information so it would be easier for them to help you with this problem.
