Network card not visible in OS

I'm trying to install a Dell BCM5720 Dual Port in a Dell PowerEdge R730XD

The card is detected in the BIOS and also in iDRAC as BRCM GbE 2P 5720-t Adapter

Instead, when I boot to linux or windows  I can only see the integrated network card

Even if I try to execute the command hwinfo --netcard there is no Broadcom card.

I tried also to update drivers and firmware via LifeCycle Controller, Dell repository manager, direct via linux and direct via Windows, but I was only been able to install the driver Broadcom NetXtreme 21.4.2 in Windows server 2019 and the card still remains undetected.

If I try to install other drivers/firmware I get the message 'The update package is not compatible with your system configuration'

OS: Windows Server 2019
BIOS: 2.17.0
Firmware: 2.84.84.84

@Dell -Charles R got the same error. Isn't it possible to extract the driver file from the r430 and install it on the r730?

Hello Matteo,

Do you have a link to the R430 driver you are talking about that you can share?

When you tried the Firmware update in the LifeCycle Controller; Did you use the windows .exe file? That is the one you use there.

@Dell -Charles R I don't have a link for the 430. I installed the card and the firmware was already installed.

Yes in lifecycle I installed the exe

Hello how about we update in iDRAC?
I'm assuming the card in the question would be:

BroadCom 5720
Part #:0FCGN
Part Desc.:CRD,NTWK,DP,BCOM,1G
Card Network, Full Height, PCIe, 1 GbE, Dual Port, BroadCom 5720 1G Adapter, Broadcom

Hello Matteo,

In the DRAC; does it show the current Firmware and MAC address?

Do you have Collect System Inventory on Restart (CSIOR) enabled?

Try :

-boot to F2 -> System Setup -> iDRAC Settings -> Lifecycle Controller to check status

Choose: Lifecycle Controller set to Enabled

Collect System Inventory on Restart set to Enabled.

Cancel Lifecycle Controller Actions set to Yes.

Save exit and reboot

@Dell -Charles R HI, in idrac there is no mac address or firmware version shown for the broadcom cards.

Lifecycle was enable
Collect System Inventory on Restart was enable
Cancel Lifecycle Controller Actions was set to "no"

Updated "Cancel Lifecycle Controller Actions" to "yes". Rebooted the server and tried to update the firmware and got the same error

Hello Matteo,

I see this statement in the thread:

"I had the same idea and tried to install one card on a r430. The card is detected on the bios and also on os"

One thing we can confirm from this is it works on a different system board (r430) so possible the R730XD needs a system board replacement.

Do all of these to reset the system board and check results after:

1.Reset iDRAC to defaults then reconfigure

Boot to F2 > iDRAC Settings > Reset iDRAC configurations to defaults. Save exit.

Boot back to F2 > iDRAC Settings > Network.

Configure IP, Subnet and Gateway.

Select correct NIC being used

Default credentials are user: root, password: calvin.

2.Clear NVRAM - there is a map under the lid to show the jumper location. Shut down, Set jumper to the Clear position, power on and Post up to the jumper error, shut down and return jumper to original location.

3.Boot to BIOS to Defaults. Press <F2> on POST, enter System BIOS, Click on the button "Default" in the low-end corner.

Save and exit. Reboot to BIOS and reconfigure any custom settings like Boot mode if needed.

4.Then drain flea power and test results after. (shut down, disconnect power cables and Network cables, hold in power button 20 seconds with cords removed). After flea power drain, system has to set for 3 minutes for DRAC to reset without any power plugged in, then plug in NIC and power but wait 2 minutes before power on to give DRAC time to initialize.
