ports mirroring

Question

I am using the powerconnect 3448 switch. I am able to setup a mirror port (destination port)  that mirroring activities on other two ports, but I found that the computer at destination port itself would not be able to has its own traffic !   Would not be able to go Internet or even ping other devices within the network?  Tracert is not working.  It seems to me that the mirror port doesn't has it own traffic, it only has the traffic of the ports it mirrored. The gateway is correct or doesn't matter as the computer could browse the net, ping others, if not using the mirror port. Is that normal for the mirroring port behave like this? No traffic on it own port ? Would someone give me some idea ?  Many thanks. Philip  :emotion-1:

I have the same issue on my PC6248.  I think it's a design 'feature'.

This is on purpose, I am not aware of a switch that would do as you are describing.  You need another NIC in the PC to monitor the traffic and still have access.  The switch is mirroring all traffic from one port to the other, it isn't listening for any traffic from your PC.  Just stick another NIC in the box and sniff traffic on that :)
