The 5324 (like the 3300, 3400, and 6024) has no default user account. To manage the switch via the network, you must first connect to the local console and create a local user with level 15 access.

(config)# username password level 15

Greg,

I just have connected to port COM1 on the switch, but it tells me Unrecognized command (the prompt isn't "config" but "console" for me)

Thanks for your help, i'm really a newbee with this kind of product  ;-((

When connecting to the console, you will be presented with a user Exec mode prompt:

console>

To enter Privileged mode, you must use the "enable" command:

console#

From Privileged mode, you enter global configuration mode using the "configure" command:

console(config)#
