PowerConnect 2716 supports multicast ?
I have DELL PowerConnect 2716 that I'm using in a home environment in unmanaged mode. I've recently started using a SONY PS3 to stream media over my network from a Windows Home Server running PS3 Media Server application. The PS3 and the PS3 Media Server uses multicast to locate the server running. Otherwise I have to wait... GASP!... up to 3 minutes for them to locate each other via an alternative alive method.
I do not have another switch to try to definitively narrow the problem to the 2716 and am hoping someone can confirm if the 2716 multicast or not?

confirmed.
Just FYI. You will get best multicast performance if all your ports are at the same speed and duplex

Thanks for the reply.
Most, but not all, of the network capable gear in the house runs gigabit. But everything is using whatever default NIC settings Windows assigns, I've not made any settings changes.
Additionally, I've never moved the 2716 into managed mode to modify any settings there, either. Do I have to manually configure the switch for multicast or impose any other settings changes for optimal performance?
I purchased this switch purely due to the fact I have a lot of network capable gear (printers, gaming consoles, PCs, server/NAS, yadda yadda) and that it supported gigabit switching speeds. Plugged it in, it worked, haven't given it a second thought until the PS3-taking-3-minutes-to-find-PS3MediaServer issue which has been narrowed down to a likely multicast issue. To my knowledge the PS3 uses multicast only to announce itself on the network so DLNA media servers can respond.

no special configuration is required for this switch to support multicast. Multicast performance of this switch will be significantly impacted if all ports are not at the same speed, so you should confirm this.
