I just read this post reguarding icmp priority http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=pc_managed&message.id=366&query.id=113120#M366

That does answer part of my question.  But I guess now I'm a little concerned with the mac errors.

Are each of the ports on the switch configured for the deault auto-negotiate? Are the clients connected to the switch also configured for auto-negotiate? I would start their as that is the more common issue.

PS.

Forgot to ask/mention if that clients experiencing the problems are nearing the distance limit of the cable runs, interference in any of the runs or sloppy punch down of the jacks or panel could also cause these prboblems to an extent. All things to look at.
