Powerconnect 3524 Help Please!!
Hello,
Please disregard that I do not know what I am doing and I have no other place to turn :emotion-1:
I have a simple switch/router setup in a home network/ plug n play baby... My switch went out and I was able to purchase a powerconnect 3524 used from someone who was upgrading their systems. I was told, just plug it in, plug in my rj-45's and bam... your back having fun...NOT!
So far I have it connected via telenet with tthe crossover db9. It boots up, then asks for username/password. Hey I don't have that! So I cannot get in that way. I have tried to get the IP thats in it to go thru via IE, nadda. I can plug into the Link/ACT G3 port from the router and can use up to port #8.
I need more ports. Is there some way in bloody heck I can just reset this so I can reset the username and password to get into it?
I want to thank you for at least reading my post and have a great day!
Jeff

If a user-defined password is lost, a password recovery procedure can be invoked from the Startup menu.
The procedure is applicable for the local terminal only and allows a one-time access to the device from
the local terminal with no password entered.
When the auto-boot message appears, press to get the Startup menu. The Startup menu
procedures can be done using the ASCII terminal or Windows HyperTerminal.
[1] Download Software
[2] Erase Flash File
[3] Password Recovery Procedure
[4] Enter Diagnostic Mode
[5] Set Terminal Baud-Rate
Password Recovery - option[3]
If a password is lost, the Password Recovery procedure can be called from the Startup menu.
The procedure enables entry to the device once without password.
To recover a lost password when entering the local terminal only:
1 From the Startup menu, type [3] and press . The password is deleted.
Enter your choice or press ESC to exit
Current password will be ignored!
NOTE: To ensure device security, reconfigure passwords for applicable management methods.
Hope this helps,

Page 255 of the User Guide discusses options to restore Factory Defaults.
support.dell.com/.../en_ug.zip
Restore Configuration Factory Defaults — When selected, indicates that the current configuration
settings should be replaced by the factory configuration default settings. When clear, indicates that the
current configuration settings should be maintained.
Command Line Reset:
console# delete startup-config
Startup file was deleted

Configuring the IP of the switch:
Console# config
Console(config)# interface vlan 1
Console(config-if)# ip address 131.108.1.27 255.255.255.0
If that is not going to work you may try a traditional IP address like 192.168.10.1 or 172.16.1.1

I suspect you haven't gone to enable mode first, have a look at the CLI prompt, you need a #...so
Console>enable
Console#config
Console(config)# interface vlan 1
Console(config-if)# ip address 131.108.1.27 255.255.255.0
Console(config-if)# exit
Console(config)# exit
Console#copy run start

Definatly got me in. Thank you! But thats where banging my head will get me the same results as trying to navigate the commands. Is there a way to get rid of the info there and then get it to "out of box" factory state so I can start at zero setting it up?

Thanks for the guide link. I just had the getting started/cli one. When I type a command, how does it want to see it?
will I type this whole line to change the IP? I've tried different versions of it and keep getting unknown command
Console(config-if)# ip address 131.108.1.27 255.255.255.0
I appreciate the help Willy

Ok so I was able to finally get into the prompt. I wasn't catching on but now we are rolling. But after I change the ip, I type the copy run start and it asks to overwrite, choose yes and then I cannot tell if it has worked. I still cannot access thru Web interphase. Does it matter where I plug into? Port 1, G3 port? Thank you for taking the time with me, its appreciated!

Holy snizzel batman!!!! What I did to finally crack the beast. 1) Deleted startup config in the console- 2)Setp wizard started up- 3) set my IP and subnet/user and password! 4) BAM I am in like flint. It opened up all the ports and now I can set it up how I need to.
Thanks again for helping me out, you guys rock! Have a safe Halloween if you are in the US and watch out for the kids!!

Thank you so much! I needed a quick and simple way to re-IP my switch from the console after changing my network scheme remotely. Now I can hit the web interface again! U-Rock.
