PowerConnect 5316M - two vlans

Hey folks, I don't know too much about switching and routing so I'm hoping that someone here can help me with this. We have an 1855 chassis with two PowerConnect 5316M switches. On one of the blades we're running Esx which has the ability to configure virtual switches to run on different vlans. Is it possible to configure the PowerConnect switches to allow this to work with the rest of the network? And if so, any advice on how to do so? The switch guy here hasn't been able to get it working but it seems to have all of the necessary functionality. I have heard from one source that it isn't possible, but I'd like to confirm.
