PowerConnect 6248 Stack + non members

We currently have a stack consisting of 4x 6248 switches with stacking cables/modules.

I would like to add at least one more 6248 to the stack, but I need more LAG channels

than the stack limits. I don't want to break up the stack just to get more LAGS.

I was wondering if, using the high-speed ports (XG1/XG2), I could add the switch in such

a way as to have the additionnal available LAGS AND still have a higher speed connection

to the stack instead of using up to 8 ports to accomplish this.

Thanks

Tanker,

Adding more members to the stack will not increase the amount of channel groups available. I'm a little confused as to your wording. XG1 and XG2 can be either 10GbE connections or stack modules.

-- If they're used as 10GbE connections, the new switch will NOT be a part of the stack and will have a completely seperate management interface, including more channel-groups.

-- If they're used as a stack port, they will be in the same stack, but it will not increase the amount of channel-groups available.

Hi Dell-Steve A,

You have answered my question!

The confusion, for me, is the dual use of the "stacking" modules.

I'd like to connect additional 6248 switches (to the stacked switches,

but not have them be part of the stack because we do need the additional

channels. Connecting the switches via the g1/g48 ports would use up valuable

real estate with limited bandwidth improvement (in LAG). I wanted to maximize

the available bandwidth on the switches

and minimize the loss of versatility.

Thank you,

We have version 2.0.0.12 on all members.

Hi

Just one thought...what version of firmware are you running?

Release 1 was limited to 8 LAGs, but 2.0 increased this to 18...
