PowerConnect 8024F - port-channel configuration problem
Hello there,
I'm trying to configure LACP on a port-channel. The port-channel is configured on two stacked 8024Fs. I wil originally use this port-channel as a 10GbE uplink to a HP ProCurve 2900. However, the port-channel does not work.
dell8024f-01#show interfaces port-channel 23
Channel Ports Ch-Type Hash Type Min-links Local Prf
------- ----------------------------- -------- --------- --------- ---------
Po23 Inactive: Te1/0/23, Te2/0/23 Static 3 1 Enabled
I can't get the interface to "Active". The LACP partner (the ProCurve) is not being detected (and vice versa):
dell8024f-01#show lacp port-channel 23
Actor:
system priority: 1
system mac addr: D067.E599.4ABE
Partner:
system priority: 0
system mac addr: 0000.0000.0000
The LACP info for one port-channel prints out
port Te1/0/23 LACP Statistics:
LACP PDUs send: 0
LACP PDUs received: 0
which leads me to the conclusion that these interfaces aren't active at all. So I decided to connect the interface to another 8024Fs and the problem remains.
What am I missing? Any help appreciated, thanks.

Hi agipd,
Do those ports connect if they are not in a LAG? Is the switch firmware up to date? http://www.dell.com/support/home/ht/en/htbsdt1/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=2PKFX&fileId=3403155133&osCode=NAA&productCode=powerconnect-8024f&languageCode=EN&categoryId=NI

Hi Josh,
thank you for your reply.
Yes, connecting to a port without LAG works:
dell8024f-01(config)#show interfaces status Tengigabitethernet 1/0/13
Port Name Duplex Speed Neg Link Flow Control
State Status
--------- ------------------------- ------ ------- ---- ------ ------------
Te1/0/13 Full 10000 Off Up Active
We are also running the newest fw available:
unit image1 image2 current-active next-active
---- ----------- ----------- -------------- --------------
1 5.1.1.7 5.1.6.3 image2 image2
2 5.1.6.3 5.1.1.7 image1 image1

Thanks, it looks like from your first post even doing a static LAG it doesn’t connect. Does it have any lights when you create the LAG? What is the output of show statistics port-channel? Is the switchport mode set to trunk or general?
Does the HP use a different default hashing method? Page 626 ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powerconnect/powerconnect-8100_Reference%20Guide_en-us.pdf

Hi Josh,
> Does it have any lights when you create the LAG?
Yes. Lights are on and I can even see some traffic blinking. The HPs also tell by there LEDs that there is a physical link
> What is the output of show statistics port-channel?
It's all zeros.
> Is the switchport mode set to trunk or general?
switchport mode is trunk
> Does the HP use a different default hashing method?
I thought of the same. So I set up another trunk on the HPs and connected them using copper which worked instantly:
dell8024f-01#show lacp port-channel 21
Actor:
system priority: 1
system mac addr: D067.E599.4ABE
Partner:
system priority: 63424
system mac addr: 001F.FE1D.F7C0
Here is the config of the stacked switches:
dell8024f-01(config-if-Te2/0/22)#show run

How far are the switches from each other? Can you run show interfaces tengigabitethernet 1/0/23 transceiver properties
and
show interfaces tengigabitethernet 1/0/23 transceiver detail
do it on both 1/0/23 and 2/0/23 and what kind are on the HP?
Can you try each port individually that is going into that port channel and then create the LAG and disconnect one port and see if there is a port that is causing the issue?

BTW, the switches are in the same rack ATM. I wasnt able to run your suggested command, as it doesn't seem to exist. However, this worked:

Hi Josh,
I was finally able to create a working port-channel by avoiding Te1-2/0/23-24. It is working flawlessly using ports 3 and 4 on either switch. I can also access the SFPs diagnostic data on these ports, but I was unable to access it from ports 23/24. These ports remain in state "Detached", no matter what I do. A physical link is displayed via its LEDs, which confuses me a bit.

I used the same SFP+s in the now working ports.
Yes, the combo ports we're only used with the SFP+s. The copper ports have not been used. THe used SFPs are DELL-SFP-10G-SR+-SO. They're solid-optics SFP+s.
