To reset the password on the 3324, you MUST manage the switch via the null modem cable that came with it:

  1. Connect to the serial console on the 33xx and bring up your terminal emulator.  The port settings should be 9600, 8, none, 1, and no flow control.  Reboot the switch.
  2. Press [Enter] when the 'Autoboot in 2 seconds - press RETURN or Esc. to abort and enter prom' message appears during the boot process.
  3. When the boot menu appears press '4' to perform password recovery.  You should receive a message that reads 'Current password will be ignored!'  (FYI, you must act promptly, as the boot menu has a fairly short timeout if no commands are entered).  Press [Enter] to complete the procedure.
  4. Press '6' to exit the boot menu and save the change.  Allow the switch to reboot, and you should be dropped to a console> prompt.
  5. Type 'enable' to enter Privileged Exec mode.  From there, you can go to global configuration mode, and create a new username/password combination.

Note that this procedure will be good for ONE REBOOT ONLY, so be sure that your first operation after following these steps is to change the username/password on the switch, and then save your changes using 'copy run start'.
