Simple Switch Setup
Hi all, we have 5 6248 switches which are all daisy chained together. what i would like to do is add a connection from switch 5 back to switch 1 to create a loop so if swithc 3 was to go down all the others would still be able to communicate. now i know this is possible but as i'm new to this is there anything i need to setup first? i'm guessing STP will handle it
thanks

Yes you are correct Spanning tree is the IEE standard answer.
Before you plug the cable in though - take these steps :
(1) Turn SPT on each individual switch - these days enable Rapid Spanning Tree.
(2) Set Spanning tree ROOT at a predicatable point in the network chain.....ideally next to the router or main L3 intervlan routing point. This is set by simply changing the spanning tree priority to a lower value e.g. 1024
(3) Also set the next designated root (NDR) on a different switch- in case root ever fails e.g set to 4096
(4) Finally create the loop with the cable - topology should resolve to loop free "logically"
