Hello! I think its difficult to say whether or not this is a stacking issue, per se. With the master unit going offline, the backup unit would report the stack link failure, but it could be something unrelated to a stacking bug. I would consider upgrading to the latest firmware for multiple reasons. First, there are nearly a hundred bugs fixed between the latest release (dated December 2018) and the one currently running. About a dozen of these fixes have some relation to stacking, but it could actually be one of the other fixes that solves the problem (if it happens to not be stack related). After downloading the 6.5.3.3 firmware, opening the Release Notes pdf shows the list of issues fixed in this release, the majority of which are tagged as "field" issues. So hopefully someone has already reported this issue and it is now fixed. No guarantees, but might be worth a shot. Hope this helps!

Thanks appreciate it. I was just concerned to go to the new "branch" of the firmware.

I have been having stacking issues with Dells N4000 series for literally years (6x N4000 in a single stack). Quite literally nearly every release not for each firmware upgrade says it addresses this issue.

Do not upgrade to 6.5.x unless you are trying to stack an N4000 and another model of switch. I have had over 15 tickets with Pro Support on the issues that come with the 6.5.x firmware.

Dell Support is the one who told me this "Do not upgrade to 6.5.x unless you are trying to stack an N4000 and another model of switch."
