If a vlan is dynamic you have to add the vlan (using vlan database, vlan 512) before you can use it on the switch.

I am having the same problem on an N4064. I tried to do the vlan database, vlan 248 thing; but it doesn't stick. Running config doesn't show it.
sjc-sw10g-c02(config)#do show vlan

ERROR: Failed to set VLAN Name

Could not configure pvid.

This hadn't bothered me, because we migrated to Force 10 switches.
But I need to use the old PowerConnect N4064 switches again, and this is still a problem. Please help.
