VRTX R1-2210 failed to boot - HOSTG_flash_page_is_empty
We have a VRTX with the R1-2210 10G switch that was failing to boot. The CMC web page shows "I/O module A1 failed to boot" this is a R1-2210 switch module. This happened after a full power cycle of the system, previously the system was online...
- CMC is at: v3.20
- mainboard is at: v2.21
- .R1-2210 is at: v2.0.0.75
Can't connect to the switch:
- $ connect -m switch-1
- connect: acquiring remote port
- (hangs here with no other output)
Serial console shows constant scrolling with:
“HOSTG_flash_page_is_empty: offset ##### exceeds flash limits.”
Looks like the firmware was corrupt or bad image. I am told the listed procedures were followed when the switch was updated.
Had to re-upload & re-flash the switch with xmodem. Per insight from:
Then switch was responding correctly.
And for good measure did a full shutdown and power removal.
All still good and now back to normal. Wanted to post this to help anyone else that may encounter the same, or similar, issue!

How did you connect to the switch to do the xmodem commands?

Hi rcoop133,
You can connect to the serial port of the switch through the cmc with the connect switch command.

Thanks Josh. As the original poster stated, when the R1-2210 doesn't boot properly the serial connection from the CMC just hangs.
I purchased a cable to connect to the serial port: WY835
I have a different error:
%HAL_hw_lion-F-SetInfModeAndSpeedFailed: Failed to configure ifIndex 5 speed 2 interface mode 3 status 1
Any idea on how to fix this issue? Flashing the firmware via xmodem does not help.

The solution was to pull the switch, remove the cover, and then remove the small battery (CR2032) and then replace it.
