Hi there
I'm running XP Pro on my new Inspiron 1520 (no more vista)
When i boot up, it cant find my wireless network
But if i right click on the icon, and choose "Connect to" and pick my network
it then connects and all is well

Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility
Ver. 4.100.15.8
Chipset BCM 4311 / CCM 2050
Location USA

Any ideas?

Is it using Windows to manage your connection or the Dell Wireless Utility?  Have you tried using the one that you aren't currently using?  This would help us to determine what the problem is with whichever utility you are using?

I prefer the Windows utility. it is much simpler and much easier to diagnose problems with.  You can get the latest Dell Utility as part of the latest driver package if you click on Drivers and Downloads, below to the left, enter your Service Tag number and use "Network" to find the latest dirver package.

my laptop came with Vista, that is now gone
so i'm kind of on my own with an Xp install now

let me ask this
if xp is doing a good job of it
can i just dump the dell utility all together?
(one less thing to load up and all)

If Windows is managing the network, the Dell Utility is taking up very little in the way of resources.   It's useful to have around in case you need to troubleshoot, but it's not absolutely necessary.
