3Com Net Card not detected (Dimension 2200)

Hello there, I'm trying to install a net card, 3Com 3C905B and the Dell 2200 Dimension is not recognizing nor detecting the card.what exactly is the issues with the dell computers?I have tried the same network card in 2 different non-brand computers and they were recognize with flying colors, but not in Dell... Also, I've tried to add a new video card (G4by nvidia), but the same issue, the card is not detected. So , i loaded up Knoppix , to see if I can detect the hardware this way and no go. the problems reside on the BIOS ... I flashed the Bios to the new version and no go ; Its the last call for help before I get fed up with this kind of issues (which I received only from Dell hardware) and will advise ALL my clients to return their computers to the factory. IS it anybody out there who knows how to add a PCI card to a Dell Dimension 2200 (or Dimension familly) and would like to share with us the "DELL Procedures" on how to get it installed and working? Thanks in advance , Gabriel

I haven't used a Dimension 2200, but normally in all the Dell's I've used over the years, there's really nothing in the BIOS itself that should have any effect on the system detecting new cards.

I've never seen a Dell BIOS that 'locks out' anything.

The only thing that comes to mind with regards to the BIOS is if the system has built-in graphics and/or built-in networking that has to be disabled before it will recongize that you have added another graphics or network card.

So, lets ask a few questions....

What version of Windows are you running.

Looking in the Device Manager, are you saying the new cards don't show up at all??

Any chance that the cards are showing up in Device Manage but they have a yellow exclamation mark next to them indicating they are there but that there is a problem with the device and they just don't work yet.

One other 'possible' thing is that there is something else installed in the system that is causing a resource conflict with the cards you are trying to add resulting in the new cards not showing up.

Are there any other cards installed in the system?

Also, if it happens that the cards you bought did not come from Dell or they are not the same brand/model that Dell uses in their systems, Dell support may not be able to help you. They are only familier with the various brands of cards/parts that they happen to sell/use/install in Dell systems.

Unfortunalty they don't have the broad knowledge of every manufacturer's products, so they may or may not be able to help even though to us, the cards you're trying to install are pretty common.
