Have you treid right clicking on your wireless connection in Network Connections( In Control Panel) and choosing View availabel networks? If you see your Network Connection click on it and then click on connect.

that worked great, so what just happened there?

instead of using dell supplied software to work the wireless connections, we just used windows already installed software?

Yes, use the Windows Configuration Utility to manage you connection.  There is a setting in there to "Connect to ONly Preferred Netwroks", or some such language which will in effect block the signals from undesired connections.

You were trying to use both Windows Configuration and Intel ProSet at the same time. In your Wireless configuration check off " Use Windows to configure my wireless settings".
