Sounds like you have a bad connector on the motherboard. You don't say which model computer you have, so it's hard to give advice. If you are still under warranty, call Dell Tech Support for a repair.

My classmate and myself both have inspiron 5150s.
Both of us are experiencing exactly the same problem you have mentioned in regards
to the LAN/ethernet port!!!
Are there any other 5150 owners out there experiencing this problem?
