a whole series of xp problems! HELP!!!

please please help. i have been having a lot of bother with my windows xp. i ran an virus scan and it detected the bloodhound.w32.1 virus. i quarantined all files and thougt my pc would be ok but now a black cmd.exe window keeps popping up and a window appears saying some files could not be created. i also get the winrar self extracting archive window popping up even though i don't know what this is and i get another window popping up saying my registry editor has been disabled by my administrator. as well as that i keep getting a window that says generic host process for win32 services has encountered a problem. i don't know how to solve any of this and any scan i run isn't detecting a thing! i feel like tearing out my hair cos the only site i can acces is the yahoo homepage(and even that's a struggle!)...i have to use someone else's pc to post this as i can't get on to any site. i'm a computer ditz but would appreciate any and all help. thank you!

Since this is a Windows problem rather than a network problem, I suggest you post you quesiton in the Sofware - Windows XP forum or the Virus/Spyware Information and Removal forum.  It sounds like you have contracted a number of viruses that have messed up your computer.  Get some decent antivirus software and keep it up to date to avoid problem like this in the future, as it sounds like this one might require wiping the hard drive and starting over.

First, you're right in everything you advised.

But I did want to mention Stinger as a last ditch defense.  I downloaded it to a floppy.  It's a virus scanner, cleaner for a range of the most popular viruses, and since it's stored off the hard drive even the viruses that attack AV's can't hurt it.

I know it's McAfee, but it has a good recommendation.  Note the sign up for updates listing.
