AC97 SoftV92 Data Fax Modem
I can receive fax in a manual mode or automatic mode. However, my Inspiron 2650 is not smart enough to:
- first listen and if it is a voice call - ignore it (and let my external answering machine handle the call)
- if is a fax call - receive the fax.
What do I need to get that functionality?

Your fax software doesn't know what kind of a call it is until it picks up. Just like humans, no software can do that (except for the "caller ID" function on phones). Unless you connect a second phone line dedicated only for fax calls, you have to live with it. If you're expecting a fax, set your answering machine to "off," or many rings, and let the computer answer it. This is one of the drawbacks of using computer fax software hooked to one phone line.
What I do if I want something faxed is tell the faxing party to do it in the next 10 minutes, hang up and plug the phone cord into the phone modem, set my fax software to receive faxes after 2 rings, set my phone machine to answer at 4 rings (or "off), and wait for the fax to come in.

My PC (Inspiron 2650 with XP) can receive fax in manual mode or in automatic mode. In automatic mode it treats every call as a fax call. In manual mode I have to be there to decide if it is voice or fax call.
I want my PC to pickup the line and listen, after that:
- If it is a voice call, ignore it (and let my external answering machine handle the call)
- If it is a fax call - receive the fax.
What do I need to get that functionality?

Unless you have software that has this kind of functionality (I don't know of any, but there may be, do some googling) you have to let the computer pick up the call in order for it to receive fax.
As I said, unless you have a dedicated fax phone line, you (or your computer) are not going to know who's calling. That's why businesses have a secondary phone number only for fax.
If you find any software that does this, please post it as I would like it too :>)
