The other utility is the Windows Wireless Zero Configuration utility. If you want Windows to manage, select Use Microsoft Client, and deselect Use Intel Pro.

If you cannot use wireless zero configuration or microsoft client you might need to doewnload the latest driver for the wireless card that you have.If whats happening to you is that you cannot either use the card utility as well as the microsoft client.downloading the altest driver would work...

Unless you have need for some of the extra features of the Intel Proset Utility, the Windows utility works just fine.   Why it sets it back, I can't explain.  Have you got it set to use whichever utility you want to use in both of the utilities?

You do not need to disable the wireless adapter when you connect to an ethernet source.  But, if you want to turn it off, you can do so using the Fn F2 key combination which toggles the wireless on and off.  If the TCP/IP properties of the ethernet adatpter are set to obtain an IP address automatically (the default settings and the ones that work with your router), all you have to do is plug a cable into the ethernet port and the ethernet source, and you should be set to go.

It is working fine with the Intel Proset.  I don't know anything about the windows one, so I don't think I want to explore or use it.  Is there a preference?  It's just sometimes I have to go through the hoops to turn it back on because of that message.  BUT why does it happen??  It's not set to use microsoft client, but I have to select it and then select back to use the Intel Pro.

Also, while I'm here.   What are the steps to use the ethernet cable instead of the wireless?  Like if I'm at a hotel and can only plug into the internet.  I haven't got it to work at home by plugging into my Netgear Router.  How do I turn on the ethernet?  Do I need to disable the wireless radio?

Thanks again,

Christine

Sorry to bother you again.  If I have the ethernet plugged in and the wireless radio on How can I tell which one I'm using when I'm on the internet?  I didn't see any settings in the properties of the connections or on the Intenet Properties LAN settings to say which one to use first.

And where are the utilities, especially the window utility you were talking about, if I should want to use Windows instead of Intel Pro? I've gotten quite comfortable using Intel Pro and know my way around it pretty well.  I've got the highest longest security key set in both the Router and Intel Pro.  I don't think I really want to learn another way.

NEVERMIND...........I plugged in my cable and it still said a cable was unplugged.  So I started to unplug it so I could use my other PC to write you again and what do you know?  It snapped in all the way!   So it does work.  DUH!!
