Any specific hardware requirements for a wireless card?

Hi folks,
Am I correct in thinking that there are no specific hardware requirements in order to fit a wireless card to a reasonably modern desktop pc?  I have a Dimension 2200.

Thanks.

P.S Also, to save me posting another message - what spec. of system board would I need to install an NVIDIA or Radeon graphics card to my Dimension?    Thanks.

You are correct, a wireless PCI card will work on any XP machine from the last 5 years or so.  There are other options, USB, etc.

In answer to the graphics card question, you'll need to post the specific model of Dimension you have in order to be able tell you more.  We need to know whether you have PCI only, or AGP, or perhaps even PCI-Express connectivity.

Thanks for the reply.

I downloaded 'Everest' and it indicates that I have an Intel Whitney i810E motherboard chipset and a  Intel(R) 82810E Graphics Controller (32 MB) with an  Intel i752 3D Accelerator.
Is this a basic motherboard chipset not capable of supporting advanced graphics cards.  If so, then I presume I would have to replace the motherboard - am I correct?

Thanks.

You'll have to replace a lot more than just the mainboard to use a fast video card - you'll need a new case and power supply as well. Given the low-end nature of he 2200 system, and the fact that it's worth about $50-75 on the used market, it makes no sense to invest a lot in upgrading it.

Replace it - this time, if you need good video, go no lower than a mid-range system (Dimension E510 minimum).

Thanks.  Was quite surprised that I would need a new power supply.  I think a new PC is the best bet as you say.  Marcus G.
