Applications Hang when wirless is turned on.

Could you please read the following sentence that your wrote " When I am on travel and try to connect to a wireless network even choosing workstation only the applications freeze as soon as I turn off the wireless everything works fine", then, try to rewrite it so that we can make some sense of it.

Sorry if you took my reply as rude, but if you cannot communicate your problem effectively, then no one can help.   If you don't want my help, then I can easily walk away, as no one is paying me to do this.

When you say that you need to choose workstation, please explain what you mean.   What procedure do you go through to choose Workstation and, is it after going through this procedure that the applications lock up? 

I'm sorry if I need more clarification, but in reading over 400,000 messages on this forum, I have never seen your problem reported.

First off you don't need to be rude if you didn't understand something don't waste your time trying to figure it out.  There is always one person that makes a site like this bad.

Here is my problem:

I have novell client and I need to choose workstation only when I am out of the office.  The computer boots up and as soon as a wireless connection is detected the local applications such as word etc freeze when I open them.

I have an ancient and dimly-recollected memory of Novell which goes back to before Windows 95. I believe it is "workstation only" that is being selected (as opposed to networked to Novell).
One thing I know is that IPX/SPX does not "compute" out in the TCP/IP world (at a minimum may be extraneous). If I run into it on a system (which I did recently) I just UNcheck those services. I also know that Microsoft applications like Word frequently decide on their own to "freeze up" in a non-Novell environment. We have a favorite service which does this and is called "Desk95"
If the service is running, we STOP the service and also do a hard drive search for "desk95.exe" and then rename it (I change to "dot xex" from "dot exe" to disable it.
There are many other things that can result in Microsoft's freezing up; however, I would start with unchecking (if you can get to it) the IPX/SPX services if you are not going to be using the Novell network in the immediate situation. Just some general thought/direction.

My work with Novell was in support of U.S. military, specifically the Navy, submarine division. Change is like turning a huge ship. It is very slow and takes a long time. Fortunately they pushed ME overboard (instead of Novell). I have been swimming Windows since (1997) - 95, 98 SE, 2000 Pro, XP Pro and all the server 3.51 and 4 and 2000 and 2003. Fun.

Novell could be causing the issues because once your pc states it will try to download programs from the server...

my university had Novell login on all its computers. if you wanted to run a program for the first time or get user settings you could not be in workstation mode rather you needed to have a connection with the local server

half the time it worked... the other half restart was a good option lol it seems to be prone to a network bug whereby it will not detect a network
