Autoconfiguration - Can't release my IP address.

Does anyone know how I can release the my IP addres?  when i try running ipconfig, it shows:

Autoconfiguration IP Address: 169.254.78.223

Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0

I need to renew the IP to use my wireless router.  Any help will be appreciated.  Thank you.

Autoconfiguration addresses can't be released, because they weren't assigned by a DHCP server. The operating system "autoassigned" the address.

Did you try "ipconfig /renew"? I'm assuming that you just obtained the wireless router, and that the wireless card was enabled to receive an IP address automatically before there was a DHCP server available to provide it with an IP address.

If "ipconfig /renew" doesn't result in a valid IP address, try rebooting. If that still doesn't result in an IP address assignment by the wireless router, there's a problem and you should post back with full details about the wireless router, wireless client device, and operating system, including what service pack has been installed.

Thanks for the reply Jim.  What appears to be a complex problem turned out to be something so obvious.  The IP was released and changed after I RESET the wireless router. I thought that it had to be done through windows but I guess I was wrong.  I hope this posting helps others that may encounter the same problem.
