BAD CONNECTION AND SLOW INTERNET

I have an Inspiron 15 7000 series 7548 and have a few questions.

!) Why doesn't it come with an ethernet port?

2) Why can't I get internet in different areas in my house. I have always had Dell Inspiron 15 for years and loved them. This one I have not liked from the start. Main computer downstairs and nothing works upstairs unless I am in the Bathroom which is right over the main computer.  My son has a chromebook and can get internet all over the house which is a small ranch.  The sales people at Best Buy said  Dell was a great laptop as long as I  stayed away from Inspirons under 15.  What happened to the wonderful dells i  used to get?    My internet co is comcast infinity.

Hi,

First, I'm sorry for the problems you're having with your internet connection.  The Inspiron 15 7548 was designed to be more of a slim form factor than previous versions and, as people are moving more and more to wireless, it's design just doesn't have enough room to fit in the ethernet adapters.

With your internet connection dropping, do you notice any change in your signal strength prior to the loss of internet connectivity?  Does that seem to be the cause of why you can't connect?   Have you changed the channel on your router to see if you can find a connection wavelength that has less interference?

Here is a link to the Dell Wireless & Networking Support Center, and you'll find some helpful hints and tricks that you can try to see if you can improve the wireless connection.  You'll find directions on how to change the wireless channel your router is connecting on and

You don't mention which version of Windows that you're running on that system, or which wireless card you have in it.  Is it the Intel 3160 AC/BT combo card?  That is, I believe, the standard wireless card in that system.  I would suggest you go to our support site, input your service tag, and once the pages refresh click on the Drivers & Downloads link.  Under the Networking category you'll find updated drivers for your wireless card.  Try downloading the latest one and see if that helps.

If it is the Intel 3160 card, it is a dual band card, meaning it can connect at both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz bandwidth, do you know if your router can handle both wireless bands?  If so, have you tried connecting to the 5 GHz bandwidth from your router?

Have you updated the firmware on your router lately?  With the newer cards coming out, not to mention Windows 10, the software (ie firmware) on the router also needs to be kept up to date.  Your documentation / user manual for your router should explain how to update the firmware on it, normally it's pretty simple and only takes about 30 seconds to do.

I would also recommend rebooting the router by powering it down for 30 seconds and allowing it to then power cycle back to normal.  Hopefully that may resolve any conflicts you're having with the connection.

Let me know more about your system, what operating system you're running, what card you have in it, and what make and model router you are connecting to.  Make sure you check out the Wireless Support Center I linked above and try all the suggestions in that article.  You probably will find something in there that will help you.
