Bluetooth Disabled itself
I installed the internal Bluetooth card in my Inspiron 600m a couple of weeks ago. After installing the software and drivers, I configured it for the lone device I already had (my Palm Tungsten T2). Everything has been working fine with the hookup, but now I have a new problem.
For some reason, just today, the Bluetooth stopped responding. It was gradual and the tray icon intermittently showed enabled and disabled status. I tried restarting and even turning off power to the laptop. As a final step, I removed and reinstalled the internal Bluetooth card into the slot in the front of the computer. Now, the Bluetooth lamp does not come on, and there is no Bluetooth activity at all.
Could the card have gone bad in just that short a time, and is there anything else that could be wrong before I send the card back to Dell for a replacement?
Thanks,
Tony

This is a crying shame. Why can't they just admit they made a design error and redesign the bluetooth chip and holder and replace it for everyone?
I started this thread, and I still haven't gotten any satisfaction from Dell on this issue. I love the laptop, wouldn't say anything bad about how dependable it has been. But the Bluetooth design is flawed and they need to fix it - permanently, or replace the laptop with a new one.

Our laptop (600m) is only a few months old. To be accurate, this is actually our second laptop. The first was sent with a non-working bluetooth card. They sent out somebody to replace it and that didn't fix the problem. I called support and they wanted to replace the motherboard on a laptop that was less than 30 days old. I told them that was unacceptable and they needed to send me a new laptop. To my surprise, they actually did.
Now several months later, my bluetooth has been turning on and off by itself. I couldn't figure out why it would be doing that and then I found this post.
It turns out pressing down on the case right above where the bluetooth card is located turns the card back on. This is really stupid. I will be contacting Dell about this. This is completely unacceptable. I was wary of getting a laptop from Dell to begin with. We use Dell at work and they are great machines, but this just won't cut it.
I am not going to send them this laptop or let them send another bluetooth card because when their techs put the laptop back together it never is the same, its always creaky or loose or something. They need to give people who are having problems with the internal bluetooth cards either a refund or a pcmcia/usb bluetooth device.

It's not worth it to me to repeatedly send my laptop back to Dell for new motherboards every few weeks.
