Bluetooth disapear after applying Windows XP service pack 1a

I've windows XP proffessional installed on my inspiron 8500.

Everything is ok, but after applying xp service pack 1a the bluetooth is not anymore alavailable, icon stay red,

When reinstalling the driver the system say that he could not see the bluetooth hardware.

In removing the service pack, everything is ok, but no service pack !

Does anyone had the same problem ?

I just rolled back my installation to XP home, which is what came pre installed. still no bluetooth, even after the drivers were reinstalled. it's like the hardware isnt there any more. could it have been physically disabled? and is there a way i can fix it? i've got no time to send it in for service (need the machine for a trip next week, w or w/o bluetooth)

Is there a BIOS enable for the Bluetooth?

and why would you install that.. i doubt dell is still shippin laptops without Sp1 almost a year after it's released... SP1 should already be in right???

the 600m came with XP home installed on it, and i upgraded to XP pro. when i was installing sp1 onto the XP pro installation, the bluetooth card stopped working.

I have since rolled back to the XP home sp1 installation that came with the laptop, but the bios and the diagnostic CD both do not recognise the presence of an internal bluetooth card.

i'm really afraid it's a hardware problem, but as familiar as i am with x86 desktops, i've never had a laptop before.i wouldnt know where to start troubleshooting a hardware problem like this.

Doh! I've only just found this article as I set about trashing the install of Windows XP Pro after my Bluetooth stopped working! Of course, my Latitude D800 came with WinXP Home edition, I needed WinXP Pro. I upgraded the installation of XP to the Pro edition and after applying SP1 Bluetooth fails to start correctly and the icon shows up red instead of blue and white.

Could this be caused by SP1? I don't know. Even by reinstalling the latest WIndows XP drivers from the Dell website the install fails at the end saying that it can't find any Bluetooth hardware. All icons in System, Devices show up fine.

I am reinstalling a fresh copy of Windows XP Pro and will apply SP1 first. Then I'll reinstall the Bluetooth drivers and let you know if that fixes the problem, I doubt it, but I'll check back soon to see if anyone else has found a solution.

Best regards,

S

...and now, after a clean reinstall of WIndows XP Pro, followed by SP1, followed by a reboot, followed by [finally] the Bluetooth drivers - all is well!

Excellent
