Brand New Studio xps 1640
It has the mini card for wireless as well as a wifi. I can only connect to the net in one room, connected to the adapter in the wall for electricity. The other computers in the house that are wireless work fine. I can take this laptop into the same room that another wireless is working fine and it does not work.
Tech service can not help. I need some input from you all. I have the 10/100 ethernet card As well as the wifi. On the task bar the tech disabled the wifi, he said that would fix it but it didn't. I did read somewhere on the forum that this card (mini) is not compaitable with Vista. If that is the case I can't understand why Dell would put it in here. I had a previous computer 1640 that had the 1/2 card in it and had no problems.
I have had so many different answers from techs, customer service etc. I am totally at a loss. Please help. I would like to be able to use this as a lap top not a desktop.

I have the Intel (R) WiFi Link 5300 802.11 AGN half minicard. I know what the button for the internet is for and turned that off and on again. Didn't fix the problem.

I did read somewhere on the forum that this card (mini) is not compaitable with Vista. You have read some misinformation on this site.
You need to turn your wireless connection back on by touching the little radio tower symbol at the top of the keyboard.
What wireless card do you have in your computer?
You can find the card using your service tag.
You can then update your Wireless card driver. Check to see whether tech support has done this by comparing the date and name of the driver.

Hi
I have this wireless card. It runs alright on the G side, runs much better with the Draft N side.
The security setting in your notebook have to match the setting in your router. You have to make sure the passcode is the same in your computer, as in your router.
Broadcast SSID(You may want to change this to make it easier to connect)
This works with the G connection.
Use WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security(WPA Personal). Most wireless devices work best with this type of security.

I am sorry but I am not understanding what you are saying as I am not literate in networking. The router is from Comcast. Do you mean that they can change the settings in it or that I can change the settings in the notebook?
I have my security code SSID set as wpa as a WEP set as a personal password that I chose. Both are entered in this notebook. I have entered it into both the wireless in another room which works fine and in this notebook which will not work except in this room and is slower then the rest of the computers
What is the G connection How do I change this the the WPA-PSK (TKIP)?.

Hi
This networking stuff can be very confusing. You should call Comcast and ask them to help you setup their router to your computer.
I want to give you the setting used in the my 1640.
Security type: WPA-Personal
Encryption: TKIP
Nework Security key or passcode:
PudgyOne
