Broadcom 440x Ethernet IP Address all 0's
I am trying to connect to the internet via wired ethernet cable modem. I am running Windows XP service pack 3 on Dell Inspiron 9400 Broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller. The device is enabled and working properly. I can access the internet via wireless fine but when I try local connection via ethernet cable I get the error that the IP address is all 0's. My internet company has tested router and it is fine but they say it can't talk to my computer via ethernet. I have uninstalled drivers and reinstalled no luck. I have disabled the wireless still no luck. I researched on the internet for a week and I can't figure out how to fix it. Could someone please help.

Have you checked that DHCP is enabled for your ethernet connection? Could be something simple like that.

If nothing else, I'd recommend running ipconfig /all and posting the output here. That should clear up how the network adapter is configured, and could point out a simple solution.
Have you already tried reinstalling (or updating) the driver for it?

go to control panel and click network and internet connections, next click network connections, look for your local area connection, and right click it, in the menu that appears click properties, in the local area connection dialogue box look under, this connection uses the following items, click on the arrow head to scroll down through the items until you see internet protocall tcp/ip, if you see a check mark in the box ok if not click on the box to put one in it,make sure that the words internet protocall tcp/ip is highlighted in blue,if not click on the words or the icon to highlight them, then click properties, next look for obtain an ip address automatically and click on the white circle beside of it to put a black dot in it. next move down to obtain dns server automatically and do the same, then click ok,on the next dialogue box click ok,now you should have an ip address and connect to the internet,if your local area connection is enabled, you can see the lan icon in your system tray if it has a red cross on it just right click it and then click open network connections, then right click the connection, then click enable.
