C400 wireless mini-PCI card installation
I recently bought a C400 and would like to install a wireless card in the mini-PCI slot. What cards will work in the C400 and how do I install it? Thanks for your help.

Hi,
You should be able to use most cards, I would look for some that Dell recommend so that they will fit OK. By that I mean you wont have trouble fitting. I have seen some that the antennae cables wont reach, and some proprietary brands have a firm-ware hobble so they wont work in another brand. The board fits under the keyboard, and the cables should already be there. From the product support Tab above you should be able to find a service manual.

I had a time trying to even be able to get a mni-pci internal wireless card for these C400's. We (meaning my company) had to go to e-bay to get the cards for Dell said they don't make the cards anymore. Then they came back and said they did and it was an 1150 card. I have a number here:
DP/N 08U082 C/O
The 1st and 4th are zero's. This may be Dell part numbers.Then I have on the yellow sticker 8U082 and it says, "CRD, WRLES, MPCI, INT, AGR, 2.4Ghz". This mean Mini-Pci Internal Wireless 2.4 GHZ network card and it uses the Agere chipset. I did have to download Agere software and utility software from Agere;s website I believe. Hopefully, this forum e-mails me to let me know if there are any replies so I can try to send the files to you.
We have installed this into about 5 C400's now and it works. I also wrote up for my fellow team on how to install the card for you have to remove the cover by the power button area, then take out the keyboard, and then install the card.
