Can connect to network, not to internet

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this one. Recently, I have had troubles when I take my computer to coffee shops to use the WiFi. My laptop will detect the wireless network, connect to it and show it in the bottom status bar as having an excellent connection. However, when I click on internet explorer or firefox, it won't display a page. Strangest of all, when I'm at home and connect via a modem and a phone line, I have no problem bringing up either internet browser. I've been using wifi hotspots for some time now and never had problems until this week. What do I need to do?? Thanks

Are you running any third party firewalls that may be blocking the connection?  If you boot to Safe Mode with Network Support, can you connect at these hotspots?

Having same issues on my new E1505 with Vista. Talked with T-Mobile Hotspot Support. They looked at everything. Disabling all firewalls, security, phishing, etc. This included 'releasing' with Command Prompts. They were stumped and said it must be a Vista issue. Referred me back to the Microsoft Vista Support Team. So, here I am at various hotspots. Strong connection but unable to get online! Just like you - no issues with my wireless 2Wire connection at home, ethernet connection at the office or at hotel private wireless providers. Note: No hotspot connection problems at all with either of my other laptops running XP Professional. So where do we go from here?
